Red face Loading new line

You'd think I'd know better after loading multipliers and fixed spool reels with about a million miles of mono and braid. Started flyfishing back end of last year and loaded two spools of Greys line straight off the spool onto the reel. No problem. I also bought some mill end stuff but this was in loose coils secured with pipecleaner. I loaded this off the coil on the floor but got a reet tangle. I sorted it out and loaded it again. No problem. I've just bought some Velocity dtf5# and really messed up. The spool is one of those that seperates from the side, so I thought "must be for a reason" so I split it and loaded it from the side. The line now comes off the reel looking like one of those slinkies that the grandkids send down the stairs. How can I get the coils out??

Take it all off. Lay it out straight in the garden on grass, or dangle it from the top floor window. Wind it all back on again with the line passing through a magazine trapped under a few others to tension the line.

Next time you have a coiled line to load, roll up a magazine and push it inside the coils, let the magazine undo itself until it is snug up against the inside of the coils. Then wind the line onto the reel using the magazine as an axle. A helper is very useful when doing any of this...

Thanks bud, I thought as much. Good tip re: magazine and loose coils. I'm hanging out the attic window as we speak (or post!). Absolute result from my first ever postybloggythingy.

I could add, that Airflo Floaters have a reputaion for being slinkies straight out of the box.
