any advice, in old age I am finding the barbour rather heavy, need fully waterproof warm jacket with lots of pockets, large size, ie, 50" chest, any advice please. thank you.

There is a new shop opened up in Southampton, its called Go Outdoors. I have just brought a softshell jacket and an outer jacket for £50. Well worth a look. Fishing jackets are so over priced.

A slight 'leftfield' option is to look for a second hand (or nearly new) snowboard/ski jacket on eBay as these often have well taped seams, are warm without being heavy and have a neat option called a 'snow-skirt' which is a inner elasticated fitting that wraps around yoru waist to stop snow entering inside your clothes.

Now, albeit you are unlikely to go skiing, it stops any wind or rain blowing up inside when on the bank or boat.


I use mine to great affect.
