Default Rod performance after tip repair.

I recently snapped about 6-7" off the top section of my rod(10ft 7-8wt).

I got a new tip ring put on it today and the person in the shop said it might make the action a little stiffer.

Would this affect it by much?, as I don't really want to go up a line weight or anything(I use a 7wt).

Thanks.

I would have thought that you would notice a fair difference with the top 6" missing. A repair like that is not something I would consider, IMHO. Much better to replace the section.

you dont say if they are replacing the tip...if they stick a tip ring on the end i think it would be safe to say it will be very much stiffer, cast it with the line out through the remaining last ring and you will see.

It costs £25 for me to get a replacement, I am planning to get another tip section but I decided it would be worth a try first with a new tip ring.

It was a pretty stiff rod to begin with so would it really be that much of a difference?

Yeah i see what you mean , gave it a few casts out in the garden and it just feels rubbish compared to what it did before.

The last six inches of any rod is vital to its action. I've broken and temporally repaired many rods so I could fish on but the action is totally destroyed. As other members have said you must get a replacement section, if you can, or the rod is useless.
