Default Rod licence

Do I read correctly?

That rod licences expire on 31st March each year? Does that mean that if I was to purchase a rod licence now (to start fishing at the weekend) I would then have to replace it on the 1st April????

You read it correctly!
It does at first glance appear to be an odd date to renew it but it works out fine for coarse fishers. Or at least it does for coarse fishers who still observe the close season as opposed to those that must fish year round on lakes and canals...
You always have the option of buying day or week licenses to see you through to April. Next year you wont have this problem

I can see why they do it, and it mostly makes sense,,,,,,,,,

however, I am sure it must encourage (I will not) people to fish without a licence for a few days,,,,,

£3.75 per day, for Feb and March, probably means around £20-30,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, thats a lot of money for what will be a 7 week season!!!! In fact it I may be better off buying a years licence.

Buy a full one on the 1st April that lasts a year instead of buying a full one now and it only being valid for the next few weeks, that's my take anyways

Because next year at this time he will have the license that he is going to buy on April 1st this year. Nothing more sinister or exciting than that I'm afraid!
