Default One fly to get you through the winter

If you could choose one fly to get you through the winter months on stocked fisheries, which one would you choose? As I am new to the sport, and have not been having much luck at my local

Cheers,
Alex

Either a pink Apps worm or a goldhead cat's whisker - the former if the water is very clear.

Default Fly

In Winter I always found smaller buzzers and hackled nymphs (16 short shank or less) work really well, as fish are more lethargic and don't feel like chasing bigger prey, many dark small Chironomid hatch well in the shorter days and are often the main source of food as they rise to the surface, I've done well in a few still water comps from the bank with these tactics.
