Default Will I be wasting my money on the East Lyn?

Hi guys,

I am thinking of bidding on a lot on the AST Fishing Auction.

"Salmon, sea trout and trout fishing on most of the bottom reaches of the East Lyn from Lynmouth to Brendon, about four miles. 2 days for 2 rods"

details here

Let's say I manage to get it for £80.
That's twenty quid each per day. Is that worth it. Will I catch anything?

I've never fished down there. All advice extremely welcome

It is a great little river. Is it worth it... umm.
A day ticket for salmon/sea trout on this water is £13.50 and a week is £35. Brown trout £3/day £10/week.
But then the whole point of the AST auction is to give money to a good cause The choice is yours!

Salmon fishing can be good if you hit a spate but it is nearly all worm or spinner, the river just wasn't made for salmon fly fishing. On a summer spate it can get very busy with salmon anglers, I prefer to fish it before June 16th Two days fishing in good water should give you a salmon or two. Sea trout fishing is a shadow of what it used to be but sometimes a reasonable run of peal (small sea trout) turns up.

Trout are small and plentiful. The river runs in a very deep wooded valley and fishes well in even the brightest weather for trout. Working up through the runs and pools with a dry fly on a summers day should see you catching trout left right and centre

Although the area is very popular with walkers they don't interfere with the fishing to any great extent. I've never felt inconvenienced by them. There is an excellent tea rooms at Watersmeet half way up the stretch, ideal for refueling!

Thumbs up

thanks westcountry - you're right it's all about the AST really
and let's face it - we all like a good tea room
it will be interesting worming for salmon - I think I'd have my bo***cks chopped off with a blunt hacksaw if I tried that on the South esk

A few of us fished downstream of Watersmeet a few years back.Lots of small trout, however it was the salmon that we were really interested in,but drew a blank,we were worming. We were told that dusk/dark was the best option!!!.We did see one guy come off with one small salmon however.
Lovely setting and cheap fishing. It did get busy with walkers but they were not a problem.
