www.wader-repair.co.uk would have been a better bet, he has 2 pairs of my waders at the moment, hoping to have them back in a week or so

I agree that DD's service is very good as well, he cured my neoprenes for me.
But this Simms lark is a joke IMO, you pay far more in the first place, then get stung again when they need repair, after a few dodgy pairs of waders I went with Orvis, never looked back, total peace of mind, and rapid service.

How can that kind of a charge be justified? Are they charging you duty and VAT in addition to the carriage charge?

To me this is a ridiculous situation where Parcel Force is holding goods hostage to extract fees for a service that has already been paid for by the sender. What is the justification for this charge? The waders were already yours and were being sent for repair.

You should be able to claim back the tax, Ive had the same problem before.

Ive also sent Simms waders that were bought in the USA to the European repair centre with no problem, they are all the same kit at the end of the day.

Parcelforce does apply the charges as I have said on numerous occasions HMRC apply the charges and Parcelforce collect the fees on HMRC's behalf. It would be more helpful if you stated the facts rather than jumping in with an absolutely ridiculous statement.

If you appeal the charges with HMRC and you can prove it is a return for repair they will refund the charges.

I also returned a leaking pair of waders to simms in the states (just worn over a 5 week trip to New Zealand) , was advised that they had something like 150 small holes in them ! caused by my misuse and that my warranty was not valid not sure what could have made the holes ...walking through thistles ?
I was given the option though of buying a highly discounted pair from them , which I took , they were sent through marked warranty repair which meant that no duty was liable.

I didn't state any facts. If you go back and actually read my post, I think you'll find I asked several questions to attempt to ascertain the facts. Specifically, what is the breakdown of the fees given that the actual carriage costs were already paid.

You seem rather sensitive and defensive about this topic. You don't happen to work for the carrier in question, do you?
