Cool Rod Butt Extension

Hello,

I have one of those cheap (but I like it!) Shakespeare expedition travel rods, 7 weight 10ft long that I like to use on a couple of smaller local rivers for sea trout in the summer.

It has one of those tiny fighting butts that can be unscrewed. Does anyone know if you can buy or if it's easy to get the components to make a larger extension to screw on in place to enable the rod to become a double hander. Would be so handy for casting in some of the situations I find myself in.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Coco

The Shakespeare Trion 10ft 7/8 comes complete with the small fighting butt and an extra extension handle to make it into a two handed rod. Simply unscrew one and replace with the other. It may be possible to get a spare extension from a Shakespeare dealer as the screw thread is likely to be the same on your rod.

Partridge also supplied long extensions with their rods.
You might be able to pick one up.

If your not fast your last...extension away
awaiting postal details.
I incidentally am getting one made up by an engineer mate. Shakespeare are a nightmare to deal with for spare parts. (I have had the trion butt on order and told them to stuff it). I have made the extension he is making the threaded connection.

Was about to suggest making one also, shouldn't be too tricky? I've done a few myself, also protects the reel from knocks.

Hi Guys

They aren't too tough to make. Its possible to buy butt caps with the female threaded portion in them that glue into the end of the reel seat. Then just buy some threaded bar of the correct size (usually m6), cut it to the desired length....say 6" and then glue cork rings onto the bar. Turn down as usual and hey presto......removable switch handle.

Pacbay do a butt plug and a 5" post that fits it too.

Hope that helps

Steve

Hello,

If your stuck, or need the bits, speak to Steve Parton, on here, or via his website.
Sparton Fishing Tackle

I got the bits from Steve to do the same thing with one of his own rods, and he was involved with Shakey for a year or two
