Default Esthwaite - any advice / views

Hi, a couple of us are planning a few days fishing Esthwaite in the Lake District in late April.

Searching this site presents a mixed view - does anyone have an opinion on how good (or bad ?) Esthwaite might be in late April.

(given that Esthwaite seems to advertise its pike and roach and allows spinning and worms, I should point out that we will be flyfishing for trout !)

Northern lagoon is flyfishing only.I have fished it before from the eastern bank, nice fishing.I will be fishing it a bit more this year.If you stay in many of the Hotels and B&B in Hawkshead you get a free bank C&R ticket.(Kings Arms hotel very good,1 night B&B got me an afternoon/eve ticket and a morning ticket before I left at 12)

I fish Esthwaite a lot and i find it is great fishing at that time of year. The fish respond well to buzzers and nymphs at that time of year. But if all else fails the good old blob works too

Default Esthwaite

Anyone got an update or tips on how Esthwaite is fishing?
Fishing it this Sat with SharkeyP from the boat for the first time.

Latest website report looks ok, although weather may be a bit blowy it seems.

Likewise for Ghyll Head, High Newton, Moss Eccles Tarn (minus the boat!)

Haven't fished it at this time of year but did fish from boat last October when fish were rising freely all over the water. There are some hot-spots - the guy in the hut will help you out - but I found the shallows just off the island facing the huts to be a good spot, along with in the middle channel toward the northern end. Hope you have a good day.

No Bill,
I went back to Barnsfold and plucked some boobies out of that tree you were fishing next too. Got all I need now!

SharkeyP

BTW Icky, I saw on another thread that you'd fished Moss Eccles and found it hard fishing, is that a euphemism for blanking or can you pass on any helpful tips?

Default Esthwaite Water 2 April

Hi SharkeyP and Noeyedeer

I've been following the weather forecast for Hawkshead for Saturday and it is going to be breezey.

High
8°C
Light Rain / Wind
Wind From South South West at 34 kmph
Maximum Humidity 82%
Chance of Precip. 40%

My best guess is that fish will be slightly down and Di3 and Di5 lines with boobies or FABS should do well. Recommended lures for this time of year, Vivas, Cats, and Tadpoles. Recommended hot spots Weather Bay and Swimming Pool.
Good luck I wish I was fishing with you both.

Black Knight

Hi all,

Esthwaite is fishing very well at the moment, I fished on Sunday and yes you can catch stockies down the bottom end of the lake on sinking lines as all the fish are stocked at the lodge! But, and its a big but, there is a shed load of fish from weather bay all the way down to the Grub hole especially at the fence end! Depending on the weather, they are on nymphs and buzzers, I spooned fish and they are crammed with buzzers! I caught on a midge tip with 3 nymphs but they are rising like mad given the right conditions! When it goes flat calm, fish are rising all over the place, I think April will fish its rocks off! Just ask Dave Coleman or AJ (Alex) and they will put you straight!
