Default Hackle for spidders help

Hi I am wanting to tie some north country spiders, and am finding it hard to get a snipe and moorhen wing, is there an alternative hackle I can use for the Snipe and Purple and Waterhen Bloa. Thanks Steve

hen pheasant breast feather is also very good.
much lareger and easier imho to use than snipe.
coockshill has some of those natural capes for spiders.

Coot wings seem to be slightly easier to get hold of. Also the Brahma hen capes from Whiting are really good.

Hope this helps

Not sure why you are having so much trouble locating Snipe and Moorhen wings, a quick google brings up loads of choices.

Try these......

Moorhen Wings – Glasgow Angling Centre

Snipe Wings – Glasgow Angling Centre

The Pirate.

I tried to find snipe wings last year and it was a bit of a struggle. cookshill was out and all the usual suspects. lathkill are out of stock as we speak.
snipe are getting pretty rare or are there no good shots around?
managed to find a pair in Orvis shop in Bath, dont think the bloke in there has seen anyone so excited about a pair of wings.
and no i dont think there is a good substitute for snipe.
although i do like the effect you get from jacdaw scalp.
atb, dave
