Long time since I fished Cobbinshaw, one of my favourite waters, I was a guest of Kenny Miller on a couple of occasions, many years ago.

Used to stay up there, fished occasionally as a guest in the 80s.

I also know of one member on here but he dose not post much...

He's a good friend and I once spent a day on cobenshaw with him and we had a exellent days fishing, it's a real beautiful place...

The fish are in great nick as well, if i remember right I caught a big silver 4lb+ overwintered rainbow, this fish really did give me the run about and we both thought it was much bigger till it hit the net.

Was a member from 84 to about 96, was a better loch before they put in rainbows imo, had many great days/evenings on it.

It might be interesting for those who live south of the border to know something more about Cobinshaw that is reckoned to be one of the more expensive lochs in Scotland. I have several very close friends and relatives who are members and I fish it as a guest a few times each year although it is not my favourite venue since it is boat fishing only.

Membership is restricted but it is not as difficult as some people think to join. Assuming three days fishing per week the annual cost, including membership and boat charges, is around £600. All boats are first class and supplied with 5hp (I think) engine and a full tank of petrol. The loch is well stocked and something like £40,000 of fish are put in each year. Fish quality is very high. There are two full time employees who ensure all facilities are kept in good order. The loch area is something like 350 acres.

I can remember it when it was stocked with browns and very good they were too and I think more than a few members would like to see them re-introduced even if it was to lead to an increase in fishing costs.

A fair comparison of cost would be to look at the prices charged by nearby fisheries which, quite frankly, are no where near the Cobinshaw standards of facilities and fishing experience.Three days per week at, at least, £20 for a four hour session and twenty weeks per year comes to £1,200.

A bit of exclusivity is not as expensive as you think.

Despite living very close to Cobbinshaw I have never ever fished the water , Tried for 12 years to obtain a membership and was along with many locals overlooked year after year , Only when the membership dwindled was I approached to have a membership by a long term member whom had ignored me year after year of asking to join!

Clique of the highest order!
