Default Complete newby to the sport after some advice and guidance...

Hi all,

I've recently had a big career change, and from my love of fishing for Barbel and Chubb on the Southern chalk streams and rivers like th Bristol Avon, I've now moved to Ayrshire and find myself surrounded by fly fishing venues and rivers....

I know nothing of this discipline of the sport, never done it, wouldn't know where to start....

Can anybody give me pointers on Clubs or associations in the Dumfries Galloway & Ayrshire area (I'm located in Ayr), a guide so I can try it with some expert advice, equipment advice like rods and centre pins nets packs etc etc...

I'd even ask about passes and licenses, as I'm aware they differ from the usual coarse licenses that I've bought and when the season runs as again I'm aware it differs from the coarse rivers April to June close season.......

Thanks guys,

Maybe I'll meet a few angling buddies in the future

Andy

Welcome Andy, as Jim says plenty of lads on the forum from that area, and yes we know already about the good fishing James.

Hello fella's

Be good to meet some more local chaps, I'm new to the area so know nothing of this awesome fishing, though I've seen plenty of rivers and streams that look superb...

You'll love it - and the great news, as roeroeyerboat has already stated, is that north of the border you won't need a rod licence.

That's correct. You will, however, still require a permit.

There is a tackle shop in Ayr that will be able to suppy information (and permits for some stretches).
