Pondfish - i think so, there have been a number of threads on this very subject and i believe it was estimated that one in three end up taxed. However, if you get get the supplier to print "gift" on the package you may well be ok.

Add about another 30% and you'll be close to the final all in total. But you might not have to pay anything(don't bet on it)

Gift will not cover it.

If you look at previous posts this question has been raised numerous times and answered with all the required details.

As other good forum members have said there may or may not be duty, and depends who the shipper is , from experience if you can get the company to put gift on parcel and posted by normal post you might be ok. but if DHL FEDEX, UPS, then think you would pay duty to them as i had to in past. plus vat. this was not a fishing item so hope there is a forum member can say for sure. mind you it would not put me off buying from the usa if i could not get in uk. good luck.

And not so sure about the one in three.....I've been charged for every one so far!
The calculator produced on an earlier thread is really helpful. Basically you pay; VAT, import tax if its over a certain amount plus the carriers administration costs.

Its the reason that I have not ordered a rod from the US. You can usually pick up the same rod as cheaply here now and don't forget vat is now 20%::
