Default Which Stroft?

Hi,
Can anyone tell me the difference, in practical fishing terms, between Stroft GTM and ABR? I gather that ABR is supposed to indicate abrasion resistance, but abrasion is not a problem where I fish, so are there any other considerations when choosing between the two?
Thanks,
Angus

Angus, I did use GTM at the recommendation of a very knowledgeable pal; then same pal switched to ABR ... and so have I. Do I notice anything different? I can't think I do.

Stroft (and maybe all copolymer) needs to be looked after; it deteriorates quite quickly in sunlight. Make sure that the retailer you buy from hasn't had it on a shelf for a couple of years.

It's also possible to buy it direct from the manufacturer, so you know what you're buying is "fresh"

the site's in German but it's not too difficult to navigate, and an email in English will be answered in English (not surprisingly)

They are quiite similar in strength, i like the ABR better because it has less shine to it...

the ABR is very slightly stiffer and according to the manufacturer with slightly better durability while the GTM is said to be slightly better castability - you can find plenty of info in English here WAKU GmbH - STROFT Fishing Lines . In my fishing I would say that the ABR feels slightly more responsive when detecting the strikes, the GTM is maybe better for playing the fish, but it may be just me. I ve been using both types for years, but out of habit Im using GTM more often. Next product in the stroft range to be expected soon are tapered mono leaders for fly fishing.

BOTH, EQUAL! IMO.

I use GTM. For River & Stream Dry Fly Fishing! Soft and strong; but be careful how you tie the knots! It will undo easily.

Great Great Stuff! Been using it since I took advice from a mate ( Buzz ) Just brilliant , I use 6.7lb as standard for Rainbowfish and never ever had a problem even with Loganlea 8lb and 12lb fish last season.

O'Reillys Fishing is where I buy mine's

Good Luck

Mmm! I was given some 6.6lb (3kg) Stroft last season by a mate who said he'd tried it and broke 3 times! He said, "it was c***." I tried it and cracked off on my very first fish, so I too passed it on. The mate I passed it on to also broke several times - must have been a bad spool

I later tried some 1·4kg GTM and found it also to be very "temperamental."
