hello there complete newbie to fly fishing looking for wisdom . i'm looking at buying my first fly rod soon but i'm a bit bewildered by the choices available so i'm looking for recommendations. i'm looking for a 5 or 6 weight 3/4 piece set up (rod and reel) i've been advised elsewhere to put most of my budget into a rod and get a cheap reel with a couple of spools is this best? got a budget of 100 quid tops would prefer to spend less

cheers

Most of us would like to find some wisdom! It's fair to say your budget is a bit tight, but maybe a rod from shakespeare, a reel such as a rimfly, or perhaps one of Airflo's fantastic deal offers, with a line from Pitsford Pirate might even leave you with a little change. Good luck.

This seems like a good deal:

Wychwood Truefly Trout Rods – Glasgow Angling Centre

You could look out for starter kits, not usually great but maybe do just for this season until you have the itch to buy more stuff

Or if you are starting out maybe going to your local shop and speaking to the guys there most shop owners are brilliant help. Even if they have a car park they might allow for you to test as well!!

You haven't said what fishing you will be doing! why have you gone for 5/6#?
Most of the big tackle dealers will do starter kits with rod, reels, and lines
Garry Evans is one
Airflo 40 Outfit-Half Price
Or choose
Trout Fishing Outfits
You could also try Grommet on here (ian woods fishing) he has a very good name and as said try Pitsford pirate for lines.

There's always the classifieds on here to, some great bargains to be had.

The deals Gary Evans has are usually for stuff that does not sell to the experienced fisherman. If you have a local shop go there and ask if you can demo a rod or two. Will you be fishing rivers, streams still waters from banks or from boats? If you are not sure then you could be wasting money. That Airflo kit at half price is of NO VALUE if you intend fishing smaller waters from the bank

Where are you going to be doing most of your fly fishing?
