Went once, it's a new 'hole' at the edge of a golf course. Well fitted out with casting platforms but limited backcasting room on two sides. Was a bit murky after rain when Noeyedeer and myself wet a line. The views are expansive and even Blackburn looks pretty from that angle. To buy a ticket you either have to drive in through the golf club gates and go around on the public highway, or what we did, brave the pot-holed track twice from the fishery entrance and back again across the golf course.
The girls behind the reception are quite the prettiest I have ever bought a day-ticket from which is small compensation for the damage to the suspension. The fishing was okay, I had three and missed a few takes but visibility must have been a few inches underwater. I reckon it would be a pleasant summer evening after a dry spell. Not so much fun in a Winter wind, quite exposed. Fish were good quality. A work in progress.
It's the venue for the North West Casting Club run by Chris68 which I have never managed to attend yet, but intend to at some time.

Also in the area and worth considering is the recently revitalised Kingfisher fishery at Brinscall. Just a freshly stocked Mill lodge when I visited, no facilities at all. Would be best to check the new lessees are still a going concern. Their mobile numbers are in the thread.

Thanks Sharkey. I was considering it as an alternative to Barnsfold for the weekend. In spite of the attractions of the young ladies, I reckon I'll continue trying to get to grips with Barnsfold in winter - if only to avoid looking a prat at the Lancs meet.

To buy a ticket you need to go to the clubhouse, then you can drive around on the main road to the other entrance, or you can head along the track through the edge of the golf course to the water, it is a farm track though so take your time.

The restricted casting isn't really an issue, you only need to reach the islands which shelter the fish, these are about 40 ft away. From the unrestricted banks you can cover a lot of water, the platforms are slippy, so beware.

As for the water, it is about an acre, stalking tactics work well, the place is full of corixa and has a great buzzer hatch and other insect life is beginning to take residence, watch this space. It is well stocked and there are some deep holes in the water, it can be challenging but it is similar to other waters in that respect, the more time you spend on it the better you can read it. There is a lot of surface action as well, fish are always looking up for food and are putting weight on due to the insect life the water holds

I will be posting regular updates over the coming months as well.

Chris

Wink Hows the fishing at oak royal

Fished their a few times in 2010. I found that the water was like pea soup, maybe an idea to add some aeration to the water. In the end had to fish bright coloured lures with a very slow retrieve so the fish could see the fly, with this i hit quite a few hardfighting fish. Have any of the doubles shown yet and as the water become clearer with the lake maturing . Many thanks Craig Blackburn
