Okuma airframes are a good reel

for lines the pirate on here always get a good word, have only used one quickly

by line do you mean leader material?, horse for courses just what you have faith in , I like drenan and maxima as tippet and a scierra tapered leader.
stay away from flourocarbonas it will break with one wind knot

as for flies get a box and any good tackle shop near to your fishery should be able to advise what flies you want build your selection up through useage and what other suse successfully rather than buying a lot you may not use.

I'd agree with the Okuma Airframes for a decent budget reel - not a bling reel, but good functional one - smooth running, good drag, well made, lightweight, cheap spare spools. The Scierra Avalanche is the identical reel, just sold under a different name (Okuma and Scierra both part of Svendsen Sports group). Alternatively Greys GLA and Redington Crosswater+ which are similar types.

I don't much like the cassette large arbour reels - had one once of that design and cassettes sometimes worked loose and jammed in the housing. In the end I glued one cassette in and threw the others away, which rather defeated the point! Mind you it was a Lureflash reel

Agree entirely. I got mine for under £30 incl. a spare spool (but incl. 17.5% vat) Only caveat is that, possibly owing to sloppy casting, I sometimes get the line trapped under the rather large star-wheel drag adjuster on the back. Probably wouldn't happen if I hadn't changed it to RH wind.
