Five flies would probably be enough to catch 90% of my fish each season. Doesn't stop me having 1000s in my boxes tho

Primarily rainbow fisheries but with a good head of browns.

Humungus (Black and gold)
Yellow Dancer
Cormorant
Kate McLaren
Black Hopper

my best fly of last season was a conemara black.it took rainbows, wild brownies and sea trout.
my personal choice would be,
1,conemara black
2,cinnamon gold,
3,grhe,
4,shuttlecock buzzer
5,claret or red dabbler

i took rainbows and brownies on all of the above

Mightn't you struggle a bit on a cold winters day on a stillwater with the rainbows hugging the bottom?

Grey Duster
Double Badger
Charles Cotton's Black Fly
Poly Prop Sherry
Nondescript Sedge

But I would hate to have to manage all season with only five on the waters I fish, there are too many different types of real flies that the fish can lock onto for hours at a time.
