Default New Article Series in upcoming Trout and Salmon

Hi, just a heads up that (all being well), there will be the first of a 12-month series of articles penned by your friendly neighbourhood WTT correspondent starting in the next issue. The pieces are aimed at providing food for thought on improving and appreciating our sport by considering the rivers and issues surrounding them.

First up is a great trip that myself and Don Stazicker had up to a small North Yorkshire limestone stream during last year's trout season. Don's photos are superb...

All the best

Paul

P.S. here's a shot that wasn't quite good enough for the article:

Just as an update to the original post: the amazing limestone stream in the forest and the day's fishing featured in the current (April) Trout and Salmon article on the Pickering Beck is one of the auction lots on offer in this year's WTT fundraiser.

It is being offered by Dave Southall and is a cracker for any of you small stream enthusiasts (current or aspiring!).

Looks like a great series Paul, haven't read it yet, looking forward to it.
T&S is coming earlier each month, always used to be the 23rd onwards, not complaining mind you.

Paul, as you know Dave took me on there last summer. It's a real treat and I would encourage anyone who loves fishing small streams to bid for that auction lot.

Great LWD article, Paul, and quite a coup to place a full year's habitat series with T&S, which seems to become more and more forward-thinking with almost every issue. FF&FT may need to start looking to their "progressive" laurels!

This month's effort highlights the effect of weirs on resident (not migratory) fish stocks and fly hatches.

I took the opportunity to "set" John Tyzack onto a section of river to see how the fishing varied according to the habitat.

I'm keen to get honest feedback (good and bad) from this series so I can ensure that I keep doing the good things and change factors that are less good.

This month's piece looks at the way that we, in the UK, stock our rivers with trout. Its probably this article and the next one that I would expect people to have polarised opinions over

N.B. the really nice shot of the wild fish at the end of the piece was taken by Charles Rangeley Wilson (not me as credited).
