Smile Westlow mere

Hi, I was there in Sunday morning and had a great time despite the weather!
Had three fish before 9.30 then nothing until I finished at 12.00.
1st was taken on a black and green fritz lure on a sinking Line in the "deeps"
2nd taken on an orange blob just below the surface on a floating line.
3rd taken off the top using a shipmans buzzer (orange).
Hope this helps
Send me a pm for more details if you need.

Steve

Was there a week or so ago. Had a couple of fish early on in the deeps (far bank) on a Cats and a Lucky ******. Then nothing for several hours. As a I left around 3pm, they seemed to be coming on. Chap next to me had one on a tiny black midge on the surface.
The most successful person I met was fishing a zonker, fairly fast.
Another had been fishing a pink spot shrimp with success.

Nice spot, friendly people.

hope you have a good day.

Myself, Canadakid and Walkerwood were there last Saturday, I had 2 fish within an hour on a goldhead yellow marabou tailed buzzer and had another on the same fly about 1pm ish missed a couple of takes mid afternoon. A strange day to be honest, wind was quite strong and not many fish rising at all. Never had a bad day at Westlow on previous visits even when partly frozen at -7*C. Canadakid had 5 i think 1 or 2 of them on the same buzzer!
Walkewood had one and missed a couple. Theres been a bit of talk about it being netted to remove the chub good sized ones too 4lb+. But can't confirm if its already happened or going to happen.

Did i say Chub... Doh! I stand corrected I did mean tench yeah some belters, I believe they are or have sold them off to coarse fisheries and used the cash towards stocking with trout.

I did take a cracking Rudd last year myself on a goldhead yellow marabou tailed buzzer and was over the moon, at the very least it was a good 3lb+ maybe even closer to 4lb... A cracker of a fish in a rush to return it I passed Clive aka Canadakid my Blackberry for a photo or two... Fished returned, Clive handed my phone back and no photo lol...

Seems to be a pattern here - fish caught early in the day, then action tailing off. Could it be the fish are getting spooked, angling pressure being quite high.
As Woz said, I fished there last Saturday but didn't arrive till later. Had a fish very quickly, then just a couple of takes.
Speaking to the bailiff in the car park about 3.30 he said we should be starting now! Said fish were starting to move. Unfortunately fishing stops at dusk!
Having said that, Westlow fishes extremely well when it warms up and top of the water sport is second to none.

One of my best days here was finished off with a foam bodied daddy in a thunderstorm, brisk wind and very choppy water, almost a take/fish every cast!
