Default After the Ice

I fished my club water today for the first time since before the freeze. I've had a busy couple of weeks, worked through the weekend and was getting a little cabin crazy. I spied a small window of opportunity and went for it. It's a very ordinary story but maybe the pictures will convince someone to get outside and enjoy a spot of Winter fishing.

It was a still morning, with mist hanging over Pendle Hill, and creeping down into the valley on and off. The frost was just melting when I pulled into the car park.

As I arrived at the water's edge Pendle was just peeping though the mist and looked a picture, so I took one!

At this time of year the only realistic method is sinking lines and lures, and as the bed of the reservoir is like a dry stone wall made of sharp edged grit-stone it's best not to snag the bottom so I tied on a small peach Booby. It came as a huge surprise to connect with a fish almost immediately. I'd half-expected a blank. I netted it and despatched it for the pot then settled into the rhythm of casting and slow, twitchy retrieves. Nothing for the next hour, not a pull!

A move brought a partial change of luck but I dropped it as it neared the net even though I'd kept a steady pressure on. They are real head-shakers and full of energy in the cold clear water. Another couple of moves then time for an exotic lunch of left over Nasi-Goreng (Indonesian Fried Rice). I tried the top end for a change of angle and dropped another fish mid-fight. Nobody was in earshot to hear me swear, but I was smiling really. Time to pack up and get home in time for my Son getting back from school.

Yes Alex,
BUT not at this time of year. I think day tickets are on sale March-October.
£15, keep two fish then C&R day tickets are available from "The Hut" Café in Barley car park (which is the nearest parking spot for non-members), The Pendle Inn and in theory at least from any member fishing but I wouldn't bank on finding one every day.

Are you fairly local? I believe there are a couple of vacancies for memberships. It's a great dry-fly water in late Summer.

Default After Ice

Hi Sharkey

Wonderful photos as usual. What a cracking day for fishing. I was envious when you said you may go today you can certainly pick your days.
Our fishery is an absolute gem. If any member is interested we now have vacancies for the new fishing year.We are located near Burnley and at the foot of Pendle. The Club has a small number of members and is not overfished. If anyone is interested please send me a PM and I will supply details. If anyone would like to fish our reservoir before March let me know and I will arrange for a personal day ticket.

BK

Perhaps you could help, Bruce1.

When I check my sent box, it always says (0 messages). My inbox has all my messages. Presumably I am looking in the wrong place.
Can you give me the path to the sent box?
Cheers
Bill
