Default Fishing For Forces

Has anyone had any experience with this organisation http://www.fishingforforces.org/
We as a Club are seriously considering using our leased river to hold
an event and possibly get a couple of "names" involved to help with instruction/guiding. What "red tape" is involved and to what extent does the charity get involved in the fishing aspect.
We will obviously contact the charity directly but it is helpful to get the bigger picture from those with experience in running these events. We have to put the proposal to committee (which is not an issue) the more info the better.

No but I do know "Fishing for Heroes" and wholeheartedly I support what they are doing...

Well I wouldn't class myself as a hero but I am a war veteran/pensioner and have tried to contact above charity on 5 occassions regarding a possible joint venture with Gardening Leave who have a fishing club and I have never received a single reply.

As of now Gardening Leave founder (Anna Baker-Cresswell) has now decided to build a Stillwater Fishery, location is pretty much agreed and funding isn't a problem, so if original poster would like to contact Anna about future events I'm sure she will be able to sort something out. Contact details are on the Gardening Leave website.

PLEASE DO!
my youngest was medically discharged last year, and was very down.
Wont say suicidal, but was really down.
Took him out a couple of times fly fishing, and that developed to him going to various ponds bait fishing, to finally coming salmon fishing (as a spectator) at end of last season.
He is more at peace with life now.
My boy says just being out on water is solace.
Give that feeling to ex soldiers and you will do us all proud.
I am not "a name" but will gladly help out whatever way i can.
regards
bert

I received a phone call today from fishing for heroes. After talking to them,I am fully behind what they do and not going into any details but would recommend anyone wishing to support something ,this is a worthy cause.

I hope they do very well and will do what I can to help. All are volunteers and any money goes to help all veterans from all wars and services.

Well done to them. They deserve any help possible.

Default Re: Fishing For Forces

Invicta Fly Fishing Club of Cambridge now has direct experience of working with this charity.

A group of returned soldiers -few of whom had fished before - were taken to Elinor trout fishery for the day.

It was found to be a thoroughly enjoyable day, for both the veterans and Invicta members. A truly worthwhile experience, with a lot of help and backing from the charity organisation. How rewarding it was to see lads enjoying themselves - as they undoubtedly did. when most caught a trout for the first time.

I would urge any club considering an event to get on with it.

Peter
