Default Palm springs salmon

Caught a bit of the the tight lines program on sky sports this morning, and they were doing a bit on Palm springs fishery nr Rutland.

They were catching 30lb+salmon from a small pond and it made me think about the thrill I would get from hooking, landing and killing one of these fish.
My conclusion NONE, for some reason although these fish are farmed no differently from the rainbows we catch every day from stillwaters, there just seems something not right. All the salmon I have ever caught were true wild fish, that have swam in the big Atlantic and seen life, for them as they should see it.

My views have changed a lot over the years with regard to my fly fishing for now although I do fish small stillwaters I prefer wild brown trout fishing anywhere form the smallest stream to the loughs of Ireland.

No matter what your fishing preferences may be! surely catching such big fish from such a small water cant be sport, and if this was the only fishing there was left to us I would never wet a line again.

The people from Sky should bow there heads in shame for airing such sh!t.

Just my thoughts after 6hours of thought.
Mike

Saw a piece on this in total flyfisher last year, and although I can see why it would appeal to some, at something like 100 quid for the day you won't see me making the trip... in fact to be honest I don't think I would even if I was given the chance to fish it for free... salmon should be a wild fish and I'd far sooner put in the hours to get a 5lb grilse on a river than haul a 30lber out of a puddle, where's the achievement in that? Ah well, at least it saves the proper fishing for those willing to make the effort...

£120 a day kill 1 fish, but just look at the size of that puddle.
At least give them 40/50 acres to swim in.

it's pretty ridiculous... most rainbow fisheries are bigger than that... dunno why but it doesn't seem befitting of the salmon to me... plus have you seen the state of the things? Most of them look pretty much like stocked rainbows of the same size ... give me a small stream brownie over that any day!

I saw a clip on TFF website the owner sounds like a bit of a gimp to fish husbandry lol, it was a tiny puddle certainly not sporting in the slightest, if you were ever going to do it put them in somewhere like rutland that would certainly make you jump if you got one of them lol but they belong in the rivers end of......

They are some pretty manky looking fish. Salmon in the loosest sense of the word. I couldn't help thinking those anglers looked a little embarrassed to be fishing there.

thats about the poorest excuse for a "fishery" i have ever seen. a featureless little spit. there can be no joy in that p1sh whatsoever. slag the stocked raindow all you want but at ALL the stocked waters i fish are CONSIDERABLY bigger than this effort and the fish have a SPORTING chance. Ideally i would only fish for wild fish too ( i think most of us would) but circumstances dictate different sometimes, but i agree wholeheartedly with mike, if thats all that was left then my guitar playing would improve greatly, and id sell all my fishing gear to fund it!

I wish i'd never seen this. It made me choke and it took about half an hour before i could react. This just shows that nowadays anything is possible. I'll never blame the people that pay to catch a caricature of nature nor the men that dream of getting rich on this. Sadly enough it's all part of human behaviour ... I can only sympathise with the deformed and battered fish and hope they'll not haunt me in my nightmares
