Default Showing Beginners The Ropes

I know a lot of people on here like to help others when it comes to showing beginners the ropes and giving them some guidance to get started. Does anyone else think that it would be a good idea to have another (no groaning at the back there) sub forum for beginners to post about what they want to learn and where they want to fish. This would allow more experienced members who would like to help newcomers to arrange meet ups to show them the ropes.

Not a pop here TMT but I thought that was what the whole forum was about.

If any new guys around Cumbernauld, Stirling or that kindof area are looking for any advice or even some practical instruction then please feel free to pm me. I'd be more than happy to help if I can.

Yes we are here to help on the forum, but it could take an hour to write something down that could be shown on the river or loch in the matter minutes. I'm sure there are many newbies on here that would love to have a day out with a more experienced member but would be too afraid to ask.
Its good of you to offer you own experience to any local guys, thats just the sort of thing i was meaning, but it will probably be lost in the behemoth that is the forum.

that is a good idea, but dont you think the professional instructors would be unhappy with this, i did this a farmoor a few times, and twice a letchlade but the staff were not happy i was doing this.

I wouldn't want to step on anyones toes, i think if someone wanted a guiding service to start off, they would go out and seek professional help. Whereas not everyone has the money to pay for it or does not have an instructor in their area.

i was flyfishing before there were professional instructors just like so many on here i would think. but today its a different matter a good instructor now should not only teach casting but water craft and that takes time and money. i think anyone wishing to take up now there is the oppertunity to have a lesson while choosing a rod like at sportsfish. their rods are most high end makes and prices so i should hope they would be pleased to do. but for someone on a budget maybe buy off the net if starting from scratch without some help might just give up if cant get the hang of casting and choosing the right flies through the season. for me giving up was not an option as my love of the sport and being out in our beautifull countryside has always been part of me. so if there are any new forum members taking up flyfishing this season, learning to cast a line, and understanding insect life be it rivers or lake, DONT GIVE UP, there are so many good people on here who can help you, answer your questions maybe even show you so good luck and enjoy

I never considered this before. It never even entered my mind that folk who were new to fishing would go to a professional instructor.

How the world has changed.

I'm a complete novice at fly fishing and having researched what I needed to do in terms of learning to fish, I went for a private lesson with an instructor. My 3 hours were spent on the different types of rod, reels, lines and then onto casting for a couple of hours before then having 10 mins on water craft at the end.
The instructor then told me to go out and fish for a couple of months before coming back for another lesson and to then learn how to false cast effectively.
All things being well, my first day out will be tomorrow and it looks quite likely someone who has kindly been giving me advice on here, is going to me meet me at the fishery. I think this is fantastic and am very grateful.
The cost implications of going to a professional instructor for lessons all the time would be huge, when a couple of simple pointers from a more experienced friend could be all you need to continue to improve and practice before more professional tuition.
I think what i'm trying to say in a rather long winded way is that there is a place for both professional tuition and kind hearted people helping out. Unless a fishing instructor has his own water, I don't think they can stop someone else from giving out advice on "their water" it could also help them get more business as a novice may choose to seek help after having an initial attempt at fishing with there friend. An outlay of £100 or more for a few hours tuition could be a lot of money to see if you like doing something...
