Default Salmon Parr?

It has just been pointed out to me that one of the "nuisance brownies" on my blog from a grayling day in October looks a lot like a salmon parr. This fish was caught from a tiny backwater well up the Hampshire Avon (by Amesbury) and I know Avon salmon are not having an easy time of it!! If it is a parr i think it is a goo bit of news for the species in the river!

Have a look at this site
Salmon and Trout Parr Recognition
It isn't easy to distinguish sometimes, looking at your picture the fish has characteristics that suggest both, the body shape says trout but the colour of the dispose fin, single spot on the operculum day salmon. The mouth doesn't extend back beyond the front half of the eye and there is little spotting below the lateral line...

If I was a betting man I would say salmon.

I am sort of undecided on this
The tail suggests salmon
the more random red spots indicate brownie they tend to be above the lateral line in a row on a parr.
I cant see the adipose fin colour clearly enough to make an informed decision
on saying that based on the tail alone probably a salmon parr, but on the spots a brownie.
sorry no help from me.
Based on the picture alone I would make a guess at a brownie and log in my diary as such if it was mine.

Going by the link provided by Icky I would have to agree on it being a salmon parr.

I say on size - a brown trout of that size would not really have parr markings.

That is unless he has the hands of a 6 year old girl.

salmon parr ,hardly or no dots on gill plate , maxilla doesnt extend beyond the eye, forked tail, hard to tell with pelvics as they are open in pic, lack of orange in adipose and very distinguishing parr bars...........

Haha my hands are not huge slabs with sausage fingers but the fish was probably about 5-6", other prownies I had of the same size were definitely lacking the par markings
