Default Does size matter..Greys XF2

Just seen this rod advertised full page on the back of this months Fly fishing +fly tying and is it just me (not being a river fisher) that finds it absurd that an extra 6 inch section of rod stored in the handle would make a good selling point. Would changing from a 9 1/2 ft to a 10ft make that much difference?

Would it alter the characteristics of the rod enough to be some thing noticeable?

Greys Fly - Products - Flyfishing Rods - Single Handed - XF2 Streamflex Plus

I quote

"This XF2 Streamnflex Plus carries a special "extender" section inside the butt, so you can switch tactics mid-pool by changing your rod from a deft 9'6" dry fly wand to a 10ft nymphing weapon in seconds"

Bruce if you look at the link I think it shows that a 6inch section is stored in the butt and I assume fits between existing sections therefore gaining additional length.

It fits between the butt and second section.

AH MY MISTAKE THEN , i thought it was an extension of the butt only , well that sheds a different light on it , but for 6" extra is it worth that much when you can shuffle 6 inch further out or just extend your fly line that bit more???

Sounds like a feature to catch anglers rather than fish to me...

Post Greys XF2 Streamflex Plus Rod

This extra bit revision to the standard rod cost about £100 on the normal price and if it adds little to the performance of the rod it's an expensive gimmick. I only hope this micro section extension dosen't catch on or we'll see other Greys rods offered with the extra bit that is patent pending.Taking the above to its extreme two or three micro section extensions could be offered with rods in the future making a rod range from 9 to 10.5 feet. The principle isn't new as rods with two different top sections lengths have been around for over half a century.
