When was a small salmon called a Jack.Never in a million years.It's a small pike.

i'm not familiar with american terminology, never caught a stripey or used a duncan knot

Heard Stripey used here for perch.but not common.and A duncan knot or uni/ grinner.is the same knot.

16/20, my geography let me down.

I would say a whip finish is a method of finishing a head on a fly rather than a tool (which would correctly be termed a whip finish tool ) as you can whip finish by hand too
