Default sodding cows..

Ok, so i treat myself today to a day on the river... (or not) we have a beat on the club books that i dont get to fish very often as access is only monday to friday, thee water was murky and deep due to the recent rain.

The river bank on the beat is a 2 foot wide path cordoned off from the field by a barbed wire fence, you cross the field, go through a kissing gate to access the river path and off you go...

there was loads of activity from salmon jumping and splashing all over the place.

i worked my way upstream without any luck.. i caught sight of something moving out of the corner of my eye, there was a cow on the wrong side of the fence it was trapped and clearly panicking i couldnt move out of its way as the path was
too narrow, i moved further up stream but was stuck for anywhere to go..

then the cow freaked out and just barged me out of the way.. i went straight in the river, snapping my rod as i went thing is if it had been one of our elderly members it could have been a far worse scenario..

so i got wet , fished for 20 minutes and snapped a rod... does that count as a blank ??

I tracked down the owner, but could not make contact, so contacted DEFRA as i didnt want the poor animal to hurt itself or someone else.

just tried the farmer again, spoke to his wife who was very apologetic, she suggested i write to them outlining the incident and expressing my wish to claim compensation for the rod...

should have gone to work...

i have contacted

Blimey. As you say could have been a lot worse than just a broken rod. The farmer should be insured so you'll probably get your rod replaced.
I would imagine that if you had been injured in any way they would be in quite a lot of trouble, a fact that they are no doubt aware of and probably realising how lucky they are.

Reminds me of the time I parked my car up in a layby adjoining common land. Went off fishing and when I returned a couple of hours later the car was surrounded by some bloody cows which had licked all the paint on the front wing ( their tongues are like rasps) scratching it badly and snapping off the drivers mirror. I got no compensation
If you rod has a lifetime guarantee you should be able to get it replaced or repaired by the manufacturer.

so firstly its "sodding cows" and the you're concerned for the elderley and the poor beastie - ha! you need to start respecting the countryside - you're always quick to stone others i note. get a life or get out of it - i'm sure you won't be sadly missed
