Default Winter Fishing & Cold Hands??

I like winter fishing, but, I do suffer with cold hands. One of the problems is; that I have Raynaud's Syndrome! (Very Poor Circulation) and will sometimes be completely unable to tie even my shoe/boot laces! I have gloves! But, when wet, they're not much use. I also use some gel hand warmers = two in a pack from Aldi.

The walking forum guys recommend the Zippo fluid hand warmer, last for 16, hours apparently? I found a few places selling them at £19, one at £16, but, on the walking forum, one of the guy's mentioned finding some for a fiver £5, Have any of you used one; where's the cheapest place to buy one? Any ideas?

Thanks
M

Don't have the answers yet Mostyn but I am watching this thread with interest as I suffer from the same condition. Am also watching the threads on the best gloves to use too.

I would imagine the ones for a £5'er will be Chinese Copies.I would still buy one at that price mind you.

The petrol handwarmers are great. I dont have the zippo one - mine came from amazon, it's an S-Boston. Cost more than the zippo, but it was the only one available when I got it last year. Lasts all day when filled with fluid and is more reliable and warmer then the old charcoal burners.
While it is a very handy thing to have in a pocket (I'm never without mine in winter) the problem that arrises in fishing is that your hands are rarely in your pockets.
Have you tried surgical gloves?
They are the perfect fishing gloves. Virtually skin tight so you can still do all the fiddly stuff like tying knots while wearing them.
They also keep the skin on your hands dry, which avoids the wind chill factor of having wet / damp hands.
Being thin rubber does mean that they might rip during the day, but they are very cheap and you can fit a few pairs in a pocket without taking up much room.
The occasional grab of the handwarmer in your pocket seems to keep a jacket of warm air between the gloves and your skin too.

Your right Jim there are plenty available on FleaBay, bloody good they are too!

I got one last year and it gets seriously hot and stays that way for up to 24 hours depending on how much lighter fluid I use.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!

I usually rub in a bit of vaseline, I tried surgical gloves but didnt get on with them.

gel hand warmers are useless, the petrol ones look too expensive for my pocket. The solid fuel ones are good provided you light them properly and open them up once in a while and blow on the embers. They do smell though but I can put up with that.

No matter what you do you'll get cold hands in this weather, I find the best remedy of all is to keep moving.

hello yes i know what you mean i too suffer from cold hands and poor circulation thats the trouble with us oldies, i dont do much winter fly fishing now but i do some night shooting on my friends farm and use a peacock handwarmer. i will put in top shirt pocket under clothes and jacket to keep body warm and now and again warm hands, failing that sod off home in the warm but if you have made a journey not so good. peacock handwarmers, made in japan, easy to fill. last about same as zippo on lighter fuel. they are expensive but will last years and spares too. mine was a present from kind sons flyfishy61
