Default Fishing a team of spiders without droppers

Hi
As an alternative to using droppers when fishing North Country Wet Flies or spiders as they are also called, I found one gentleman of the older generation (86) used the method of tying the spiders directly to the leader so avoiding tangles assoiciated with droppers. He informed me that it is particularly good on the faster running water.
A very interesting method and well worth a try. The biggest problem is the knot to get the fly on the leader so here we go with my offering:

If you try it let me know how you get on

Cheers

Steve

Steve,

Thanks for the video - it was great! I'll use it no problem!

I used the same method when sea fishing off a pier many years ago.

So pleased you reminded me of how it's done!

Regards

M

Could you use this non dropper setup with a team of nymphs on stillwater, and would the knot be Ok with fluorocarbon?

Thanks for the vid. Very interesting indeed, I shall definately give the method a try. Also interesting was the idea of using three flies all the same on the cast. I've often thought about it but never tried. I guess if you have a team of three different and one in particular does all the catching then...logically...mmm.

Hi
One thing about fly fishing there is no such thing as always and never. It is ceratinly worth giving it a go. I can see no reason why florocarbon shouldn't work. Give it a try

Steve

It works fine with still water tactics.
In Iceland I never saw an angler tie a dropper, same in Norway it's always direct to the line.
Do you think we may give fish to much credit at times here in the UK?

Trouble of course is changing the fly. Also at the end of the day, what do you do with the leader and 3 flies. Either several large wallets with used leaders in them, or you cut the flies off and end up with short lengths of leader which you can only really use for......droppers?
