Default Line on to Reel ?? Help

I have a new Orvis LA 2, and a DT#4, floating line from the Pirate!

It wont fit properly - even with just one turn of backing! I would need to loose about 12 / 14ft, of fly line for it to fit properly! I thought the LA2, was designed to take a #5, line? I don't want to cut the line in half. What about taking 6/7ft off the front and back? It's a dilemma for me. Any help?

I wouldn't recommend taking line off the end you're going to use Mostyn, it'll fall on the water like a breeze block. Look at it this way, if you cut the line in half you have two lines, if you cut some off the front and back, you have 3 pieces of string for the runner beans.

Blimey Mostyn, only one end or you'll ruin the taper, as Stuart suggests cut it in half.
I can get a WF#5 and some micro backing on my LA11 but only just, but a DT is pushing it.

Yeah, that was my initial thought Stuart,

Just measured the line, it's 90ft, long = 30 yds, surely a full size DT#4, should fit an Orvis LA2. I've managed to put it all on the reel, but it's extremely tight fitting; and touching everywhere! maybe if I give it a good stretch it will become a little more supple and wind on easier. Don't really want to halve the line.

The reel is new! I may re sell it? it would probably take a WF#5, but not a DT#4, which is what I want it for.

I know a WF#5, will go on; but you'd think a DT#4, would fit an LA2 comfortably with just one turn of the backing that came with the line from Stewart (Pirate)!! I have it on but touching everywhere.

It was always known that the line ratings for these reels was very tight,in fact a bit suspect.

hello i have had this problem too and your other advice can be effective, as i dont know this reel i can only say what i have done if your fishing a river. your pirate line is i think about 90 ft long correct me if wrong, if you cut in half you have in effect a w/f if you fish a wide river you might not get a good turn over. a d/t as you know can be turned round for more use but i never do as i find theres too much memory and as these lines seem such good value you might think to cut say 20 ft from 1 end to get some backing on leaving you enough to aerialise your line for casting. anyway thats my thinking for your problem but feel sure someone may have a better solution.

ps these pirate lines sound very good value, do they float high on the water and have very low memory i am in need of 2 lines for this season a d/t 5 and w/f 5 floaters
