Default Anyone fish Otley?

Was thinking of joining the Otley AA for this year as I live quite close. Looking at their website a couple of things occur:

1. They seem to have quite a lot of coarse fishing (although maybe that is mainly in the lakes?)
2. They appear to have their own fishery to stock the stretch and appear to note that they put 'thousands' of brown trout in each year?

Anyone fished there? Any thoughts/comments/experiences?

Cheers
Stuart

I'm not sure but i think this is the same stretch as used by Leeds AA members - i'm joining this year, although membership is a bit less (£45 or so) members do have to have a day ticket currently £4. Leeds also have lots of other river stretches, and although not trout stocked i intend to spend the spring and summer exploring these; trying to expand on the small stillwater fishing i'm accustomed to. You may want to have a looksee at the Leeds website

The Otley stretch is above the Leeds bit, good fishing to be had all the way up.
Its a while since I have fished it but used to catch plenty of Grayling and the odd trout.

Some nice surprises to be had too

Thanks Grey,
I had a quick look at the site and think the stretches are different, if it's the one at Pool you were thinking of? The one at Pool begins by the bridge at the garage in Pool, whereas the OAA stretch starts at the bridge in the centre of Otley and continues out towards Pool, but finishes up quite a distance before.

Good luck with the river fishing btw, never did fully get the attraction of stillwater fishing (I'll duck my head now for saying that...)

Cheers

I'm not a member but recall some of their stretch from my younger days - IIRC quite a bit of the water would not lend itself easily to flyfishing being quite deep and slow, also the banks are wooded and steep in places. There may be parts that have wadeable pools and riffles etc but I don't recall any, however that was along time ago and rivers can change their character.

I know a few of the members but they are all coarse anglers. You are right they do keep it well stocked, probably to keep it fishable all year round.

Not much help, I know - sorry

Thanks all,

I'll probably drive down and take a walk down the waters this weekend and see if it looks likely or not....

Cheers

If you get chance it would be worth popping into Steve Bielby's shop (Wharfedale Angling Classics) whilst you are in Otley. He specialises in fly tying and fly fishing and is knowledgeable on the Otley AC stretch from a fly fishing viewpoint, and helpful to boot.
