Default £500 to spend, what would you buy?

Purely hypothetical, but if you could already cast well, and didn't need to spend any money on lessons etc, and you had just £500 to spend, how would you spend it.
This is to include a rod, reel, line, and waders with boots.
Forget jackets vests flies and incidentals.
What would you rate as the best gear for the money in todays market.
Has to be new not second hand.

£500.00 and I would get a couple of whores and a big bag of crack, otherwise I would just blow it on a 10ft #3 Marryat rod, Lamson Lightspeed Hard Alox reel, one of my lines and Orvis Pro-Guide waders and matching boots.

I am still thinking about it Mostyn, but I reckon there is some very good tackle out there for that money these days.
Using someone like Grommit, I feel it is an achievable goal, some great rods in the last few years sub £200.
A Vsion rod would be a contender.

Easy peasy this one mrtrout.

I'd take the £500 then beg borrow or steal another ten grand, or so , to book week 2 on the Ponoi in June.

Good Idea that Steven,

Get a rod reel line, some waders and boots from Ian (Grommit) and bank the other £200, Quids in!

Send me the money, I'll see what I can do with it.

Yep I'm with PP on this

Of course I mean his second option

Seriously though I have no idea how I would spend that as don't know enough about tackle yet as still a new boy

That said though I would give it a damn good try ....
