Default fly venue with lakes and river???

Hi folks - I'm researchig locations for this years weekend away with dad for some fluff chucking, I'm personally hell bent on doing a reasonable size river (not a stream!) but dad wants some lakes, I'm sure there must be some UK based venues that have both on site???....... I'm sure I saw a john wilson fly fishing episode where he went to such a place......any suggestions???

A number of Wessex fisheries have both river and lake fishing available.

Avon Springs (this may have been the location Knighty has seen on a John Wilson show), Holbury and Avington are three I know, there are several others.

AS has 3/4 of a mile of the upper Avon, it's part of the stretch made famous by Sawyer and Kite, and it's proper river fishing...the other two offer rather more small brook / stream fishing...fun and challenging nonetheless.

Narborough in Norfolk has lakes and a stream. It is featured on a John Wilson episode. I fished it once years ago. It was pretty good .

Ooops nearly forgot Dever Springs in Hampshire has a stretch of the River Dever you can fish, although it's on a separate ticket.A day ticket for the lakes aint cheap but a fish of a lifetime or PB could come from there ( both my mine have, bow & brown)

Hi Knighty,
Fished the Test for grayling at Wherwell yesterday (my first day fly fishing a river; great day!) and there's a small stillwater on the site as well, apparently well stocked including some large rainbows. I think this time of year 72 quid for combined ticket (no comment on value; probably reflected by degree of success). Have to make a comment on Robbie, the river keeper and money collector; smashing bloke! Could not have been more welcoming, friendly and helpful.
Regards,
Del.

Sorry, have to add, top pub in the village; White Lion. We had breakfast and dinner there but did not stay although at 7.30 last night it was becoming tempting!

Knighty

Durrington and Amesbury are the closest villages but I would recommend Salisbury for a night stop, less than 30 mins drive away. I can recommend this place:

Guest House Accommodation, B &amp B, Bed And Breakfast, Salisbury, New Forest, Wiltshire, The Rokeby

Plenty of pubs and restaurants. For a drinking experience, give this a go:

Wyndham Arms, Salisbury, Wiltshire, SP1 3AS - pub details # beerintheevening.com

regards

Vince

I can also recommend the Coach and Horses at Sutton Scotney. They have a few rooms, plus excellent food and beer.
