Default Furled Leader Tippet Size

Advise needed on the correct size of tippet to attatch to my furled leader.
I believe there is some sort of scale in diameter used is this correct?
Also could you attatch a length of mono straight through or does it have to be tapered.
Regards
Stu.

Hi Stu, all depends on the length of your furled leader, and the situation.
For a rough guide, 5ft FL= 5ft of tippet, etc, 3ft =3ft tippet approx, not set in stone, just a rough guide.
I normally get away with a straight through piece of 3lb mono, but I sometimes water knot a finer 18" tippet onto the main one.
Hope that helps.

Hello Stu

I recently started using Mr Trout's excellent furled leaders. I attach a suitable length of suitable diameter/ breaking strain monofilament or fluro to the furled leader. As I've been small stream fishing for grayling with size 16/18/20 nymphs, this has usually been c. 2.5 or 3lbs breaking strain.

I haven't tried using any sort of tapered leader, as the fly turns over very nicely with just the mono or fluro.

Regards

Tony
