Its funny how your preferences can change. These days I have almost completely lost interest in small stillwater fishing for stocked rainbows, even though thats whats most on offer on a day ticket in my area. My annual trips up to Cumbria river fishing for brownies have spolied me a bit I think

and I have always liked rivers anyway whether coarse fishing or fly, so most of my fishing now is rivers, regardless of species. Stillwater-wise for rainbows I now only really fish big ressies out in a boat, ie something a bit more challenging preferably for over-wintered 'bows which are more akin to wild fish than fresh stockies. I'm looking forward to Draycote re-opening

So my plans are:
- Chub, barbel and grayling on my coarse stretch of the lower Dove and upper Trent early year until end of coarse season (March 15th)
- When coarse fishing close season kicks in on lower Dove (and trout season opens), trying more fly fishing for the trout on there where its possible.
- April: Get back on Draycote when it hopefully re-opens this year!!

- Early June: my annual week up on the Cumbria rivers after the brownies (always the highlight

)
- Through summer: coarse fishing local rivers, maybe a spot of opportunistic river trout fishing where available, on Draycote on a boat for rainbows, get out on Carsington again (not sampled it under the new management)
- Winter: grayling and chub on lower Dove again, plus chub on Trent.
