Below is a photo of a reel I've just purchased. It's a JW Young & Son 1540.

How do I Reverse Reel from Right to Left Handed?




Any help would be much appreciated.

Ray, on the inside you will see two metal pawls, triangular things.
One will be pointing towards the spindle in the centre, the other wont, just reverse them by twisting.
Replace spool and all should be well.

To add to what Steven has said - for left handed use, as viewed in your photo - you want the Left hand pawl engaged and the RH free.

Hi Stephen & Enigma,

Great advise. It worked a treat. All I needed to do in addition was to take the line off the reel and redo it again in the opposite direction.
