Default Help with copyrighting

Hi all and a Happy New Year,

I was wondering if anybody has had their website/work copied in any form?

I have just been made aware of the fact that someone has a site that has copied and pasted details of the courses that I run word for word and even in the same font along with some other details.

My site says that the work is copyrighted but they have gone ahead and helped themselves anyway.

If anyone has had a similar experience I would love to know how best to get this sorted out!

Many thanks

Pete

If he's copied and pasted details of courses that YOU run with your contact details; I call that free advertising and the more the merrier.
The simplest way to resolve any issue if you have an issue rather than someone doing you a favour, is simply contact them through their site and ask them to remove your info.

Hi Deadskunk,

Apologies for the confusion, he is not advertising courses that I run. He is using the words from my site to describe the courses/tuition/guiding he offers. So instead of thinking up words for his website he has just cut and pasted mine!

Pete

In the first instance get in contact with the person who owns the site and ask him to remove the copied items. It may be they don't edit the site and it has been done by the website creator.

If that fails contact the ISP that the site is hosted on explaining to them that it has infringed your copyright and that you have contacted the owner and he hasn't responded.

As a last resort try a lawyers letter to the owner asking him to remove the disputed copy.

Surely a paragraph describing a bit of tuition cant be copy right, unless it makes reference to someone specific. Just my thought.
Are they cheaper and do they have the same qualifications as you do may sway future customers one way or the other, much more likely than just a line or two saying fly tuition.
I can also understand that its annoying that some herbert has not gone to the trouble you have on your site.
Good luck
Mike

Mike, I wish it were just a couple of lines but there have been large chunks of text that have been copied and pasted.

This is one of the guided options I offer below which has been copied in its entirety. This is just one example!

Sea Trout

Imagine heading off as darkness falls and strolling down to the river in search of sea trout. There are few more exciting moments when your line suddenly goes tight and a sea trout takes to the air! If this is your first time we will show you the casts and techniques needed and then we will walk the beat during daylight and discuss how we will approach the pools and then meet up later and put it all into practice. Best time for this course is June to August.

Please note you will be fishing at night time.

£150 1 person full day 1 to 1 guiding

£199 2 people

For the more experienced sea trouter hourly guiding is available at £30 per hour.

Hi Pete, I'd send him an e-mail asking for the removal of etc.
This is probably the least stressful way to go my friend.
Use: Copyscape Plagiarism Checker - Duplicate Content Detection Software to check thereafter.

Hi Pete,

As already stated, contact the guy and point out that you're aware of what he's done. Suggest he removes the plagiarised sections or you will take further action.

I've used this phrase before on websites - it seems to work:

Quote:
All words and images are in the copyright of the author. If you wish to quote, please attribute; if you wish to steal, please have funds available
All the best,
B

Edit, searching for clips from your phrasing above, only brings up your site

pete,
we had a simular experience , with one of the countrys largest sports wear companies , if not the worlds largest , they had stolen word for word our copyrighted and patented brand name and logos , and had launched a nationwide advertising campaign,
we approached the best copyright solicitors (sugested by the patents office )
and were told that they would want £25,000 deposited on( cust acc ) before they would even attempt to challenge the infringment
so best of luck nigel.

Deadskunk, many thanks for the help.

Enigma, that is a great quote!

I also ran the check and found nothing but have shown the other site to a few people who post on here. They have seen the website in question and there has been no doubt what has gone on so I am not sure how it has evaded the search.

Thanks for the help it is greatly appreciated, I think I have a phone call to make and will report back!
