I think the temperature does matter, air and water temperature can have an effect I believe!! Have you noticed that when the sun comes out and the air temperature warms the surface water, the fish rise far more freely, even when there's no hatch about, if you present your fly so as to look natural, you can sometimes induce a fish to rise to it!
When the water temperature is very low, then the catch success is far less!
I don't use a thermometer, I can tell when it's too cold; and when it's time to leave the river alone.
Czech Nymph, I avoid if possible when fishing the winter months, but if it's extremely cold even the Czech nymphing will fail to produce.
So in answer to your question?? Yes! I believe Temperature does play a big part in the activities of how fish feed, or not feed.
