Angry MADEIRA- any fly fishing

have a week booked in Madeira in mid January - anyone any info re fly fishing, or failing that any other fishing trips available?

Plenty offshore fishing for anything from grander marlin to big yellowfin tuna, big eye tuna, wahoo and bottom fishing for various fish and big rays!

Fishing off the rocks but watch the locals first to get an idea!

Telescopic rod and bubble floats seem to be the order of the day but I guess you could perserve with the fly. Garfish, Ballyhoo etc.

Being volcanic the water is pretty deep and shelves sharply down to 3000 meters!

There is some big game fishing there as they get Marlin etc come up the West Coast of Africa but thr boats always looked more 'touristy' as opposed to proper fishing of this type to be had, say in the Azores.

It's a lovely island if a tad on the dear side!

There is actually some trout fishing to be had in the mountain streams if you can get up there, we saw trout in the streams during a Levada walk but as said the big game fishing is whata Madeira is known for.

One of the boat charters,offer trout fishing,i had a look at the tackle as i didnt have any with me,and decided against it.Go for the wahoo! And you must try the espada,or was it espetada? Just have both,one is fish and the other is meat,they are both brilliant.Tight lines.
