Default new Czech nymph rod?

Hello all,

A rod question: I'm looking to get a Czech nymphing type rod, preferably 2 or 3 wt, 10 foot.

I'd narrowed the choice down to the new Streamflex 10 foot 2wt (I have the 4wt and love it, though find it very overgunned, and have taken to using it for reservoir trout, to great effect); or the Guideline Fario 10 foot 3wt (I have the 8'6 3wt, and think it's probably the best rod I've ever used).

I'd be fishing on small to medium streams and rivers around Edinburgh.

All advice would be very gratefully received,

Matt

It's slightly longer at 10'8" but worth checking out the Vision Cult in a 3 weight. Only available in continental Europe though as the UK distributors don't import this one here

Like the sound of that - though aren't the Cults very soft? I have a preference for marginally faster rods. Any idea how the compare to the Fario?

The Cults have a really full action Matt, ideal for flicking the flies back upstream. Sorry I can't compare it to the Fario. Are you sure they go down to a 3 weight in the 10' ?

What about a Hanak rod. I have a 10ft 3 wt and its a pleasure to use.

Yup - the 10 foot 3wt Fario is coming out in the New Year.

And how would you go about getting one of the Cults (others have mentioned them as well)?

Remember there is the Marryat 10ft 3# which is superb as well.

Aaarg!

This just makes it *more* complicated after I thought I'd figured it out.

I suppose at the top end, there will only be shades of difference between them.

So maybe the better question would be 2wt or 3wt?

Bearing in mind that I spend a lot of time chasing things like dace and chub as well as trout/grayling.

A garden cane or a whip is a very low cost way of tackling up for Czech nymphing. It is a fixed line method after all. No need for a reel or fly line so the cane at 60p is very good value but a whip for about £8 is still not going to break the bank.

Doesn't look as nice, though.

Hey - I grew up hand lining and using old VHF aerials to fish with, so I reckon I'm allowed to look for something a little more indulgent.

Not to dis hand-lining. Just bloody hard to cast a fly with.
