after a long break i plan to get out a few times over the christmas break on a few small waters in the south west .whats your favorite winter flys ? it will give me some ideas to tie as im letting the turkey go down

Apps boodworms,buzzers,diawl bachs,and if i do use lures it's usually something like a cats whisker of some description or another

looks like im gonna need something with a huge bead head just to break through the ice

Gold bead yellow dancer (point fly) and blobs (top dropper) for rainbows. I like to fish this with a 3 fly cast, the dancer anchors the cast and the blob on the top dropper draws them in. What you put between them is your choice, i like big heavily palmered snatchers or big hares ear nymphs. Served me as a good tactic. Failing that a cats whisker with bead chain eyes on an 8ft leader and intermediate line has also done me well on cold hard days.
