Default Winter Grayling Day Ticket Fisheries...

My Dad and myself are really desperate to get out and about for a dabble at winter Grayling fishing.

We're looking for some inexpensive day ticket fishing for grayling within perhaps 1hr 45mins MAXIMUM of St Albans.
I'm aware of the Timsbury and the Lower Itchen, any others recommended?

The LIF offer both coarse fishing, ie bait fishing and fly only, loads of fish, some very good ones too, the coarse option is £22.50, the fly beats £ 37, it gets a lot of pressure, so finesse is important in both codes, fun though.

Wherwell Estate is my favorite, not to be mixed with Wherwell Priory who when I asked don't do Grayling fishing. Getting in with Hugh O'Reilly is a good bet for this OReillys Fishing - Fly fishing tackle and fishing trips

The thing about Wherwell is that it has a huge number of carriers which you are free to wander around and even wade, you'll be hard pushed to cover the whole fishery in a day.

Then there is Barton Court, which might be easier for you to get to.

Finally the Rod Box : The Rod Box : Country Pursuits & Fly Fishing
They have a wide choice of venues.

They have a large selection

Last time I fished Barton Court, admittedly a few years ago, I found rather more dace and out-of-season browns than I did grayling. Still a nice day's sport at a nice fishery, but not really what I was hoping for. Anyone been there recently ?

I last fished Barton Court in March 2009. Conditions were good, there were nine or ten of us, all trotting, and I think perhaps four of us caught a grayling or two. I had dace, roach, gudgeon, perch, chub, grayling, trout and minnow. There were some excellent perch caught by someone who targeted them, though. An excellent mixed fishery, and very pretty, but not a great grayling water, I would say.
