Default Eating Trout

Never tried rainbow trout until last night, we baked it with butter, lemon and breadcrumbs then had it with asparagus and new potatoes which were pan fried with chilli flakes - it was bloomin' marvellous!

Defo going to eat it more often, does anyone wish to share their cooking method/recipe with me so it doesn't get boring? The more the Mrs enjoys eating trout the more she will let me go fishing so come on tell me how you cook yours

Robbie
buy yourself a little smoker,it will make a whole new taste to your fish and recepies.
I eat mine cooked with ground black pepper, fresh Dill and lemon juice,in the smoker for about 10mins and when it comes out of there a salad and new pots makes a superb meal.

Hi Kevin, thanks for that

So you smoke the fish for 10 mins then cook as normal? Sorry if thats a daft question, never used a smoker before and don't know anything about them!

Rob.

I don't like the taste of trout. Well, at least I thought I didn't.

I visited New Zealand earlier this year, where local regulations prevent the sale of trout in supermarkets - you catch what you want to eat. Staying at a holiday park in Rotorua on the banks of a trout stream flowing into the lake, we decided to keep one and try out the smoker provided for the use of guests. Very simple recipe - brown sugar and salt. Within 45 minutes of catching the fish we were eating it on the river bank. Changed my mind about trout and I will definitely eat more in future. Smoked trout tastes far better than pan fried or baked, imo.

Stuff an old sweaty sock full of wood pulp and thistles.Place this inside the body cavity of a fresh and thoroughly cleaned trout, season well with sea salt, ground black pepper, then wrap tightly in baking foil.
Pre-heat oven to 180 or gas mark 5.....bake for 15 minutes, turn the fish and bake for a further ten minutes.

Remove from baking tray, throw the trout into the bin and eat the sweaty sock.......

Sorry Robbie,I much prefer a bit of haddock.....
