Default My first ever fish (including pictures!)

Hi all, very quickly a bit of background history...

About a month ago in a thread I started I mentioned that I'd just started fly fishing and been out 4 times but never caught a fish. I got a PM from a very kind forum member (hutch6) saying that he lived not too far from me and offered to spend the day with me at my local water to go through some casting then fishing. Anyway my son was born not long after we first spoke so last Saturday was the first chance we had to meet up but my local water was frozen over so he took me to a cricket field near his house where we spent a good few hours casting, he taught me the basics and I even ended up doing a bit of double hauling

Today we went to Kilnsey in North Yorkshire for our first session on the water. Ian had assured me beforehand that I'd get my first fish there and he even brought his camera to capture my face when I caught it! He had tied me some flies that he thought would bring us some success on the day and he wasn't wrong, within 10 mins of fishing I caught my first ever fish - a modest sized rainbow, I didn't care about size though as it was my first fish and the buzz was amazing!!

A few more came along and I was loving it. As I was fighting my 5th or 6th fish of the day we could tell it was a good size, we battled for a while eventually landing him in the net - turned out it was an 8lb brownie

Stuart, they guy who runs the place took a picture of me with the fish and said he was going to put it on their website - seems I had landed a special fish!

Anyway the pictures are below for all to see.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Ian for sharing his knowledge and taking time to help a beginner like myself, he has been a huge help and I can't thank him enough for the kindness he has shown me.

Cheers, Rob.
