Was out earlier this week as I wrangled a day off... unfortunately the big freeze was still upon us. No matter - out on the kayak for midday on L. Corrib with two kms. worth of paddling before I started casting. Was toasty enough but the hands were getting pretty stiff. More runny noses than stiff c0cks as they say!
By 2 O'clock the sleet set in and the air temp got pretty frosty. Still had a nice jack pike close to 8 pounds. By this time I knew it was getting cold as the snake rings on my 10 wt started to ice up. Only thing to do, was to have lunch at 2pm and slurp down a flask of coffee. At this stage air temperature was a reel problem for casting, so did the first thing that came to mind p*ssed on the snake rings of my rod!
Felt like your man Bear Grylls, but as you know he drinks his body fluids.
Still... gave me a little more time to fling my rat sized flies and landed another pike of around 10 pounds, before the hands packed it in and it was time for home. Anyone else braving the big freeze for the love of the game?
