Default So Why the 30-Posts Rule for Classified?

I've got a couple of vests to sell but the site has just informed me that I need to have made a minimum of 30 posts before I can advertise.

Strange rule. What is it designed to achieve?

As I'm not a talented fisherman, I've always followed dear old Wittgenstein's advice: "Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one must remain silent" and have only posted where I feel that I can make a genuine contribution. As a result, I am 10 posts short of the minimum.

So, I need a few more posts before any of you lucky readers can get your hands on some marvellous vests, including a traditional Orvis number that is no longer in production.

So, what does everyone think of (post as applicable):

sight indicators
big lures
casting instructors
furled leaders

That should do it - let debate commence!

This was introduced to protect members from fraudulent sellers,It was requested by the members.and seems to work reasonably well.

Normally does not work.

Ah, OK, thanks for pointing it out.

I can see how this might discourage casual fraudsters but I prefer to fish rather than talk about it and it feels that I'm being penalised for that.

I have to support TB on this one...........

He's been a reg. member for over 2 years......

A new member could quite easily drum up 30 posts in a day or two............

It's a good point Fred, and whilst I agree that a minimum post count is a good idea, perhaps a minimum length of membership could count as well.
Say 3 months or something to keep out any fly by nights.
It is a shame that Travis is being penalised, after such a long time, and as he says, it isn't his fault he isn't a big poster.
Perhaps it can be looked at again shortly.
Travis, what do you think, talk to me a few times.

I can see how this might penalise those who don't wish to post much, but I think the benefits it brings in terms of deterring scammers outweighs that. A few have tried spamming the forums over a short time to get their post count up but some have been rumbled doing so.

But hey, why not take it as an opportunity to contribute to the content of the forum I'm not very experienced but I do try to contribute where I can, because I have learnt a lot from this forum and feel I should try to put something back in. This is not meant as a criticism, just as a thought

Asking questions counts as a contribution, in my book, and no knowledge required.

You sir are too modest, I just went and picked a thread of yours at random, this one.
My first attempt at Dabblers
If you think that is not very experienced, then you are mistaken.
Some of us, me included talk a lot of drivel half the time, but I enjoy the company and the fun on here as well as the serious stuff.
What do you think Travis, talk to us.
