Default Some Alaskan Fish Photos;

There has been some clamoring over fish pictures so I will start finding some and will post as I run across them.

When I first came to Alaska there were no digital cameras or Fly Fishing Forums. Until I joined the North American Forum I had no idea that people posted fish on the internet. I never had any motive for carrying a camera and to record every fish I caught. I still do not drag a camera along on every outing. I tend to focus on the fishing and not too much on being able to prove I caught anything. This habit has led to some rather nice fish being caught and released with no evidence of their capture aside from my word and you'll have to take that word when I say I've had some big boys that only exist in my memories. However fish pictures are very popular and I have some. Many are located on an auxiliary hard drive and will take some work to get them loaded and posted anywhere. If the pictures are a hit I will put some other threads up as I sort out some pictures. Any of the fish that are shown being held or not being released were dead when the pictures were taken. I harvest 30 - 35 salmon each year for the table and they are dispatched as soon as they are removed from the water.

My wife Nancy sometimes joins me on float trips and she gets some fine fish. Yes, she wears a side arm;

This day she showed me up in spades;

Some summers we see 70+ degree weather and I go all macho on the sockeyes;

A trout, I always feel guilty for having this picture. The fish was released but not before I put it through all of this picture stuff. The old rod has 14" of handle so I thought it was one I should snap.

Same rod with a pair of Silvers;

A good size Char;

Fishing for trout when I ran into some silvers. I did not plan on the 5 weight for salmon;

I have began albums on my Profile page here if you want to take a look. There are a series of articles I have written about fishing here in Alaska that reflect what I have found vs. what I had heard. They have been published along with images so if you would be interested send a PM and I'll link you to them.

I've been off in the files and gathered some more. I'll let some time pass and then post a #2 thread. I wish I had someone along to take a shot sometimes, there are many that don't get taken. But then what would I do with them?

Brilliant, you have briefly taken me to a place where the fish are bigger than 8 Oz
Keep them coming.

Is that five Sockeye passing through in your Char picture?

More fish than water in that river!

The firearms are to scare the bears I suppose. Nothing like that over this side of the pond!

Thanks for sharing, and making us all softy Southerners!

Hi,

Yes the creek where the char were at had ripe sockeye in it in good numbers.

The gun would be used as a last resort. We carry large cannisters of an aerosol repellent proven as effective or more so than a gun. The spray when contact with the animal will render it temporally blinded and without a sense of smell all in the course of causing tremendous respiratory discomfort.

By using our heads and having our dog Boss on guard no shots have been fired and no sprays activated in all the years of fishing. I will figure out how to load up a photo gallery here and put some bears in there.
