As some of you will be aware Roy has been suffering from cancer over the past year. Roy’s son, Matthew, has asked me to let you know that Roy hasn’t been well enough to post recently and, as Matthew rather eloquently put it, “the line from the Fisher of Men is pulling quite strong”. For obvious reasons I won’t post Matthew’s email address on the forum, but if any of you would like to contact Roy via Matthew drop me a PM and I’ll pass on Matthew’s email address.

I wish him all the best and my thoughts are with his family in what must be very tough times.

Many thanks for doing that Neil, I had quite a long chat with Roy a week or so ago.
He for some reason asked my advice on his latest purchase, a new Hardy Spitfire reel, of which he is immensly proud, and rightly so, wanted to know if he should use it or not, or leave it wrapped up for posterity.
My advice was to go catch a fish with it and enjoy, I sincerely hope he takes that advice and is well enough to do so very soon.
Please pass on my regards if you speak to him, or ask Matthew to tell him Mr Trout sends his best, I feel bombarding Matthew with e.mails is not what he needs right now.
Thankyou, Steven.

Well, here's hoping that this is one catch that breaks free.

Knowing of Roy's situation, my heart absolutely sank when I saw this post. Some gift that it's not the news I'd feared. I only just had a thought on Sunday that I'd seen nothing from Roy for a while.

I offer every prayer for Roy's recovery to spend a little more time with his family and friends.

Neil, I've sent you a PM.

There are a few anglers which I hold in the highest esteem not because of what they do, but because of what I see that they understand about why they fish. No one can have any pretensions to this, it is not a philosophy or a new religion to which one can become a willing convert. The only path to this place involves a journey that winds from fishing, to thinking, to knowing, to understanding.

It is clear to me, and has always been, that Roy has made that journey and there is no higher complement, IMO, than to say that he's one of the ones that really understands this great sport.

Sentiments very well expressed Grouse.

I count myself very lucky to have met Roy through Loopy (Chris) and shared a cup of coffee with him.

I hope to do so again many times over.

Roy is a true gentleman amongst gentlemen. Great company and one of the nicest chaps you will come across. His postings on here have always been both informative and objective. Having been touched by losing both parents to this awful disease i can only wish both Roy and his family my very best wishes and a journey that is as easy as it can be given the situation.

Kind regards

Deano

Like wise my heart sank when i saw his name up in the title.

It is always nice to see his avatar of a fly fisherman in the river surrounded with light. You know its going to be some positive and informative replie that will follow.
I really hope that we will be seeing his posts here again, he will get chance to be back in that river, and the 'fisher of Men' loses this one for a few seasons yet.
