Default A question about fishery etiquette

Hi,
I was out this afternoon at a local fishery where the management had managed to clear about a third of the loch of ice - they had pumps going on the bank keeping the water moving, and I enjoyed a great afternoon of low sun, crisp, cold but clear weather and three lovely rainbows in my net.
But then late on the manager came out, got in a boat and proceeded to work his way around the end I was fishing, rocking the boat backwards and forwards to break up ice.
He did this for about half an hour and on several occasions was no more than 20 yards from me, rocking back and forth and making a right racket - and not surprisingly I didn't get a sniff of a fish for the rest of my session, they must have been spooked to heck and back.
So, my question: As a paying customer, would I be within my rights to ask him to stop? The water was still fishable - even for a cr@p-casting newbie like me - and there was only me out there.
I don't want to name names but he told me himself later - when I suggested he might want to wear a lifejacket while standing in his boat on a frozen loch rocking from side-to-side - that he wasn't an angler himself, and frankly, I wasn't surprised.
Because I'm new to the sport I didn't want to make a fuss, but should I have politely requested he stop until I was finished fishing?
I was almost certainly his last customer of the day - it was going dark and he had shut up the fishing hut before I left.
Be interested to hear what you guys think.
Cheers,
Steve

Not much point trying to break up the ice late on a freezing afternoon when it's only going to freeze up again overnight. Sounds to me like he was telling you to b*gger off and let him close up and go to the pub. Not a fishery that would be anywhere but at the bottom of my "must visit" list.

Hmm, looks like you think the same as me.
I gave him the benefit of the doubt because I know, from visiting this particular fishery regularly, that he's not used to running it hands-on (I discovered he's one of the estate owners), and because he's not an angler himself, he's maybe not aware he was doing anything wrong.
But I should probably have said something - by not doing, he won't know he was out of order and could easily keep doing the same kind of annoying thing.
Lesson learnt - I'll not let this kind of thing go without comment if it happens again.
The fishery could lose business because of this sort of behaviour, especially if it happens to someone more outspoken than me
